Bringing safety culture to life in Caruna's supply chain

Ensuring safety in all situations is part of Caruna's safety management. Our safety management is based on a model of continuous improvement, where safety is taken into account in everything we do.

The reliability of electricity distribution has an indirect impact on the safety of society as a whole. The reliability of infrastructures important to society, such as hospitals, will improve when we improve our electricity network.

We are a member of the Zero Accidents Forum of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and we are committed to the goal of zero accidents.

Near misses and even occupational accidents happen despite careful preparation. Our goal is that all deviations are reported, investigated and corrective measures are taken to prevent the recurrence of the incident.

We report electrical accidents and near-misses to the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) in order to share information and improve electrical safety throughout the industry.

We monitor the safety of our working environment and operations through regular site inspections and safety observation rounds, also known as Safety Walks.

Safe work and working environment for our partners

We agree on safety rules already when we are signing cooperation agreements. We familiarise all our contractors and require all subcontractors to be approved by us in advance.

We have systematically intensified contractors' deviation and working hour reporting. Through training, orientation and systematic handling of deviations, the accident frequency has decreased significantly.

Development of worksite safety

Safe work is a collective effort. To improve the safety of subcontractors, we organize Caruna card training where non-electrical professionals gain a basic understanding of safety factors related to the operating environment. At the same time, we support our contract contractors in fulfilling their own induction obligations.

Everyone working on our construction sites must complete the Safety and Environment online course. In addition, we recommend completing our Electrical Safety at Work online course.

We organize various training events related to safety and environmental issues for our partners, such as on-call and troubleshooting training, land use planning training, major disturbance training, and training in clearing trees near power lines.

Recognition for safety work

We reward our partners annually who have excelled in safety matters and have strengthened their company's safety culture through their own actions, or have built new practices to naturally keep safety present in everyday work.
