Modification or inspection of existing electrical equipment
Reporting a modification or inspection
Use the general information form to report a modification or inspection of the customer’s existing electrical equipment:
- Changes to the connection cable
- Increasing the main fuse size
- Changing the pre-metering fuse
- Renovation of a multi-meter cabinet
- Commissioning inspection (no changes to equipment)
- Other minor work
Depending on the reported modifications, we order the necessary work from our partner contractor:
- Installation of an additional meter
- Meter relocation, replacement, or removal
- Connection to the network
- Temporary disconnection from network
- Other minor work
Note: Changes to the main fuse size or pre-metering fuses must be reported immediately after the fuse size change. Fuses may only be increased up to the connection right.
Report the modification or inspection of existing electrical equipment by filling out the general information form in Caruna Plus for contractors, after first ensuring you have the following details ready for the form.
General instructions
Event, usage point, or meter number
Providing the event, usage point, or meter number speeds up processing of the general information form, as it helps us locate the existing connection details. We group orders related to the connection under events and provide the event number to the customer if one has been created. If there is no event number yet, the usage point number can be found on the customer’s electricity bill, and the meter number is located on the front of the meter below the barcode.
Ensure your customer is the connection owner
Confirm with your customer that they are the connection owner or have authorization from the owner to order modifications. Direct your customer to complete the Connection Owner Change form if needed. The customer may also act under the owner’s authorization or, especially in the case of business customers, on behalf of the owner’s order.
The order will proceed to our partner contractor once ownership or authorization to act on behalf of the owner is verified.
Check the connection right
A change in connection right may be necessary if the main fuse size is increased.
Confirm with your customer that the connection right is sufficient for the increased main fuse size. If the connection right is insufficient, the customer must order a change in connection right. The work you order via the general information form will only proceed to our partner contractor once the connection right change has been completed.
Changing the connection right may require network construction by Caruna up to the point of connection. We will inform the customer of the delivery time and point of connection in an additional connection agreement for the change in connection right.
Please place the order well in advance when you know you need an electricity connection.
Position the metering cabinet according to recommendations
When the metering cabinet is renewed during renovation, it must be positioned as in new installations. The recommended metering cabinet and its location is a yard cabinet placed on the plot or at the plot boundary. Other placement options include the building’s exterior wall or a technical room with direct outdoor access. The metering cabinet must not be installed on a network company pole or in a locked space such as a hallway, garage, storage room, or carport.
In multi-meter sites, metering must be arranged so that all meters are located in the same cabinet. If this is not possible, all meters belonging to one group must be placed in the same room, for example, grouped by stairwells in apartment buildings.
Remind the customer about electricity contracts when installing new meters
If a new meter is installed under the connection, ensure that your customer makes an electricity contract for the metered usage point. We create the usage point and provide the usage point ID to the customer for making the electricity contract no later than during the processing of the general information form.
The work you ordered will proceed to our partner contractor only after we receive confirmation from the customer’s chosen electricity supplier that an electricity contract has been made for the usage point.
Verify current transformer details
Direct metering is used when the pre-metering fuse is a maximum of 63 A. If the fuses are larger than 63 A, indirect metering is used.
For indirect metering, i.e., when the pre-metering fuse of the installed meter is over 63 A, check that the switchboard’s current transformers are of an allowed size and that the accuracy class of the current transformer is 0.2S. The fuse size determines the minimum and maximum allowed size of the current transformer according to the CT table in the Contractor Guide.
Indirect metering and instrument transformers
When reducing the pre-metering fuse, a 63 A usage point can be allowed with indirect metering, provided that the accuracy class and burden of the current transformers are checked, and measurement accuracy is maintained. If necessary, the current transformers must be replaced if indirect metering is to be retained. The customer is responsible for the cost of replacing current transformers.
Connection cable modification may require a contract amendment
Renewing or extending the connection cable may require a change in the point of connection, in which case we agree on the change with the connection owner through a separate amendment contract. We check the need for an amendment contract during the processing of the general information form and send the contract for signature to the connection owner if required.
The work you ordered will proceed to our partner contractor once the signed amendment contract is returned to us.
Renovation sites
A renovation site refers to a location where the main switchboard, metering cabinets, and possibly also connection cables are updated or completely renewed. This guideline particularly applies to cases where multi-meter cabinets are replaced, for example, when old single-phase metering cabinets are upgraded to three-phase.
Please note that meters in the renovated cabinet must not be disposed of, and the disconnection of voltage from the metering cabinet must be reported to Caruna well in advance. The data transfer connection to the meter is lost if the cabinet is disconnected from the network for an extended period.
Disconnecting power from the metering cabinet
The electricity meter must have a continuous power supply. If power needs to be disconnected, notify Caruna in advance. Electricity meters must not be removed independently. All work related to electricity meters is carried out by the network company.
Remote-readable electricity meter connections only work when the meter has power. If the connection to the meter is lost and cannot be restored within three days, we will send a technician to check the situation. If the technician finds that the disruption is due to the metering cabinet being de-energized or the meter being removed, Caruna has the right to charge the costs incurred.
Detached houses, semi-detached houses, and holiday homes
Report the merging of usage points using the general information form. When multiple usage points are combined behind one electricity meter, send us the numbers of the meters to be removed and combined via the general information form.
Apartment buildings and row houses
Is this a cabinet replacement and electrical system renovation or a more extensive change? Order metering per cabinet and include the customer’s preliminary schedule with the general information form if metering cabinets are replaced one by one or in sections.
On the first general information form for the site, it is helpful to mention the schedule, for example, by noting that meters in stairwell A will be replaced in January and stairwell B in February. When the schedule becomes more precise, the order form for stairwell B can then specify the date when the work will be ready for meter replacement.
Update electrical schematics during renovation and send them to Caruna for review. Send the schematics with the first general information form or earlier by email.
See contractor service contact details
If the site transitions from one main network meter to property- and apartment-specific meters, separate network meters must be installed in parallel so that meters are not in series and electricity consumption for the same space is not measured multiple times. New metering cabinets must meet Caruna’s general guidelines for cabinets containing electricity meters.
Ordering meter relocation
If possible, arrange it so that meters from the old cabinet can be removed and meters in the new cabinet installed on the same day, i.e., meters can be transferred to the new cabinet on the same day. If this is not possible, estimate how much time you need to install the new cabinet and mention this on the general information form.
Ordering meter removal
If you only need to remove an unnecessary electricity meter, you can place the order by phone or email without sending the general information form. For renovation sites, you can order meter removals and installations on the same general information form, as the form allows you to request preferred dates for meter removal and installation.
Installing new meters
Fill out and submit the general information form. Attach electrical schematics and note when completing the form that new meter usage points are created based on the general information form.
If this is a medium-voltage connection and new network billing meters (back measurement points) are being installed at the site, indicate on the general information form the customer to whom the new usage points should be sent for electricity contract creation.
Processing and delivery time
The delivery time for the order (15 working days) consists of the form processing time (five working days) and the delivery time for work ordered from our partner contractor (10 working days).
Our partner contractor will contact you to agree on the exact schedule for the connection. The connection will be made as soon as possible after your installation work is completed.
Forms submitted with incorrect or incomplete information will extend processing and delivery times.
