Caruna delivers an electricity connection to atNorth's data center in Espoo

The capacity of the data center being built in Espoo will be 45 megawatts, and the first phase   is now complete. The excess heat generated in the data center will be reused by K-Supermarket Mankkaa, located on the adjacent plot. 

The expansion of the connection will enable the future growth of atNorth's data center capacity as well as the development and assurance of its current electricity distribution. Increasing the connection power also requires Caruna to expand the Sinimäki substation, the preparations for which will begin immediately.

The connection will be taken into use when the necessary additional capacity is available from the national transmission grid to the Espoo network area. The Sinimäki substation was completed in 2022, and the station accelerates the city's transition towards carbon-neutral Espoo. The cost estimate for the expansion of the Sinimäki substation is almost 22 million euros in total, including provisions for future growth.

The waste heat from data centers can be utilized in district heating and in companies' energy solutions.  It is important to look at the whole and see the overall impact of the investment on Finland's economic growth.
