Caruna Espoo Oy's prices are rising
For those living in apartment buildings, prices will increase an average of €0.60 per month, and for those in detached or terraced houses with electric heating, an average of €2.28 per month. Prices are being raised due to growing investment needs in the electricity grid.
– Rapid population growth and the electrification of transport and district heating are increasing electricity consumption and power demand, especially in Espoo, but also in Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi. Investments support electrification, ensure security of supply and increase capacity for momentary electricity demand peaks. In Espoo alone, the capacity of the distribution network needs to be doubled by the early 2030s, says Jyrki Tammivuori, CEO of Caruna.
Joensuu is also experiencing significant growth in electricity consumption and power demand, and our investments in Joensuu prepare the system for future increases in power demand from industrial projects and the continued electrification of heating.
Through investments, we will increase the capacity of the electricity grid and renew the current network so that the electricity grid does not become a bottleneck for the growth of cities and customers' opportunities to participate in the energy market.
– Electricity grid investments support the construction of new residential areas, the electrification of transport and heating and households' own energy production, while improving security of supply and maintenance. A predictable and long-term regulatory environment is a prerequisite for the development of the energy system. Electricity network development projects take several years, so we need to start early to meet our customers' increased needs for capacity and reliability of supply in the future, says Tammivuori.
