Caruna Oy’s and Caruna Espoo Oy’s electricity distribution prices will change starting from 1 September 2024
Caruna Oy has a deficit, and therefore the price increases by an average of 0.93 euros for apartment building residents, by an average of 2.06 euros for those living in a detached or terraced house, and by an average of 4.24 euros per month for those living in an electrically heated detached house.
Caruna Espoo Oy (Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Joensuu centre) has a surplus, and therefore the price decreases by an average of 0.28 euros for apartment building residents, by an average of 0.46 euros for those living in a detached or terraced house, and by an average of 5.26 euros per month for those living in an electrically heated detached house.
“In the current price change, we have accounted for the continuously increasing cost level and the change in regulation for 2024–2031, which weakens preventive and long-term development of the electricity network and slows down investments in the coming years. The clean transition increases the customers’ electricity consumption and power needs, and it is important that the investments required for a clean transition are taken into account in the regulation”, says Caruna’s deputy CEO Noora Neilimo-Kontio.
The electricity distribution business operates with a long-term perspective, making grid investments with a 50-year life cycle in mind. This means that the solutions of 2024 should still serve the Finnish people and Finland in the 2060s. Typically, constructing a distribution network takes approximately 3–7 years. Projects started today are unlikely to be completed before 2030.
Distribution networks must be developed proactively to prevent them from becoming bottlenecks for other clean transition investments. The tightened regulation at the beginning of the year may result in electricity distribution networks becoming a bottleneck for other clean transition investments.
“Caruna's total investment needs are substantial. Significant investments are required to renew the aging network, to improve supply continuity, and meet the growth and capacity demands of the clean energy transition. Caruna's investment need for 2024-2036 exceeds EUR 2 billion," continues Neilimo-Kontio.
We manage the invoicing of electricity and value-added tax to the state, with taxes accounting for more than a third of the invoice
