Worksites
We improve electricity distribution by, for example, replacing poles and by placing the electricity network underground. Caruna also maintains the network by cutting tree tops and branches near power lines.
On this page, you can find information about electricity network worksites.
Follow construction progress in the map service
You can follow the progress of electricity network construction and view the schedule in the map service. You can also subscribe to worksite‑specific messages in the service and contact us regarding any worksite‑related matters.
Building an electricity network typically takes 1–2 years
Caruna commissions the project from its contractor
Caruna signs an agreement with the landowner
On Caruna’s behalf, the contractor always makes a written right‑of‑way agreement or obtains consent from the landowner regarding the placement of power lines.
Electricity network planning begins
Planning work takes around half a year, depending on the area.
Electricity network construction begins
Once the network design is ready, construction can begin. Its progress is affected by, for example, terrain conditions and the weather. You can follow construction progress in the map service.
The old electricity network is dismantled and finishing work begins
After the new electricity network has been taken into use, we dismantle the old network and begin the final finishing work. We remove materials from the area and tidy the surroundings so that they are at least in the same condition as when construction began.
Dismantling the old network or switching the new one on may cause short power cuts.
We inform customers of interruptions in advance using the Sähkövahti service.
Final inspection
Finally, we check that everything is in order and ensure that the new network has been installed correctly—at a depth of at least 70 centimetres.
Informing customers and landowners
When we plan an electricity network improvement project, we inform local residents of the plan through a notice, newsletter, or resident event. You can find construction updates at the bottom of this page or in our Newsroom.
We send invitations to customer events by text message. Please keep your contact details up to date in Caruna+ to ensure you receive them.
Move with caution near the worksite
There may be temporary routes and detours near the worksite to make moving around the area safer.
⚠️ Do not touch power lines hanging close to the ground
They may look harmless but can be live and pose a life‑threatening danger.
⚠️ Do not move or take away the building materials or the markers for excavation routes
If materials (e.g. cable drums) need to be moved, please contact us through our customer service channels.
