Caruna’s connection charges 1 June 2026
On this page, you can see the valid prices for electricity connections in Caruna’s distribution areas. The price in Caruna’s network areas depends on the location of the plot, i.e. the price zone, and the size of the connection. The connection zone is determined by the distance of the future connection from the nearest distribution transformer.
A connection agreement is made, and the connection charge is paid when a property is connected to the electricity network for the first time. The agreement defines the connection right of the property, i.e. the capacity at which the property can use electricity. The connection agreement is usually in the name of the property owner and must correspond to the fuse size in use.
Caruna determines the location of the connection point primarily within the area controlled by the customer, such as at the boundary of the plot, and in the case of a large property or area, near the site to be electrified, taking into account the customer’s needs.
Different types of connections
Order a connection according to your needs
Low-voltage connection is the most common type of connection
A low-voltage connection is suitable for homes, holiday homes, farms and small and medium-sized enterprises. The connection charge is based on the main fuse size and the directly measured distance from the connection point to an existing Caruna secondary substation. The size of a low-voltage connection may be a maximum of 960 A.
Medium-voltage connection
A medium-voltage connection is used when the required capacity exceeds 0.7 MVA and the connection is made directly to Caruna’s medium-voltage electricity distribution network. For electricity production connections, the limit is typically 0.3 MVA. Electricity supply for a medium-voltage connection is provided at a voltage of 20 kilovolts. A medium-voltage connection is intended for companies that are large consumers or producers of electricity, such as shopping centres, industrial plants, solar parks and energy storage facilities. High-voltage connection
A high-voltage connection is ordered when the power requirement rises above 10–15 MVA or higher and the connection is made directly to Caruna’s high-voltage electricity distribution network. Electricity supply in a high-voltage connection is provided at a voltage of 110 kilovolts. A high-voltage connection is intended for companies that are large-scale industrial users or producers of electricity, such as wind or solar parks, large data centres, large industrial plants and large energy storage facilities. Hybrid connections (electricity storage)
An electricity storage connection is a so-called hybrid connection, which includes both electricity production and consumption. The connection charge is determined according to the production or consumption capacity, depending on which results in a higher price.
Production connection
In production connections, the nominal production capacity of the connection is greater than the maximum possible consumption capacity (fuse size) of the connection. If the price of a production connection exceeds that of a consumption connection, it is charged as the connection charge.
Mini connection
A mini connection is suitable for a single device with very low electricity consumption, such as a single billboard. The maximum power of the equipment is 500 watts. For mini connections, the customer’s electrical contractor builds the network up to the connection point specified by us. No electricity meter is installed for the mini connection; instead, invoicing is based on a fixed fee according to the power of the connected device.

Zone descriptions for electricity connections
Electricity connections are determined using so-called zone pricing. The connection zone is determined by the distance to the nearest secondary substation.
Zone 1
Areas with a local detailed plan and connections where the directly measured distance to an existing secondary substation is a maximum of 300 metres. On shore plan areas, the zone pricing is based on distance.
Zone 2
Connections where the directly measured distance to an existing secondary substation is 300–600 metres.
Area outside the zones
Area or case-specific pricing, where the connection charge consists of direct network extension costs and a capacity reservation fee.
Low-voltage connection
A low-voltage connection is suitable for homes, holiday homes, farms and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Fixed-term connection agreement
A fixed-term electricity connection is suitable for temporary electricity use, such as for electrification a construction site or during the construction period. The agreement is made for a maximum of two years at a time. We charge for the connection in accordance with our service rates, the basic fee and the power fee for the network service product will be doubled.
Increasing an electricity connection, i.e. changing the connection right
We charge for increasing a connection the difference between the connection charges for the old and the new main fuse sizes according to zone pricing. If the electricity connection is outside zone pricing, an additional connection charge will be the capacity reservation fee for the low-voltage network multiplied by the change in connection capacity. If the main fuse size is reduced, we do not refund the connection charge.
Electricity connection maintenance mode
The electricity connection is temporarily deactivated, i.e. placed in maintenance, when you do not currently need electricity but may require it again in the future. While under maintenance, the connection agreement remains valid, even though electricity cannot be used during this period. Caruna may also transfer the electricity connection to maintenance mode if the connection has not been connected to the electricity network within six months from when connection could have been carried out. We charge a fee according to the service price list for reactivating a maintenance connection if it has been in maintenance for less than one year.
Three-phase conversion of an electricity connection
Three-phase conversion means that a single-phase electricity connection is converted into a three-phase connection. A three-phase connection brings three phases to the building, which significantly increases the available electrical capacity.
Connection cable
The customer connects to Caruna’s electricity network via a connection cable. The cable is not included in the connection charge, and the customer agrees on the construction of the connection cable with their own electrical contractor. Requirements for the dimensioning of the connection cable are given in Caruna’s contractor guidelines. The electrical contractor must be certified and meet all statutory qualification requirements.
Medium-voltage connection
A medium-voltage connection is intended for companies that are large consumers or producers of electricity, such as shopping centres, industrial plants, solar parks and energy storage facilities. Electricity supply in a medium-voltage connection is provided at a voltage of 20 kilovolts. For production connections, a capacity reservation fee is charged for sites over 1 MVA.
Pricing of connections in the medium-voltage network is based on case-specific pricing. Connection charges for medium-voltage connections consist of direct extension costs and a capacity reservation fee.

High-voltage connection
A high-voltage connection is intended for companies that are large-scale industrial users or producers of electricity, such as wind or solar parks, large data centres, large industrial plants and large energy storage facilities. Electricity supply in a high-voltage connection is provided at a voltage of 110 kilovolts.
As the connection charge, we charge a capacity reservation fee as well as direct extension costs arising from connecting to the distribution network. Extension costs typically include the costs caused by feeder bays required for the connection.
The customer is responsible for building their own electricity network from the connection point onwards. We do not refund the connection charge or any part of it in the event of dismantling the connection.
Capacity reservation fees (excl. VAT)
The amount of the capacity reservation fee is determined according to the customer’s actual power requirement agreed in the connection agreement.

Connection agreement
Connections to the high-voltage distribution network and the method of connection are agreed in a separate connection agreement, which defines the connection capacity, connection point, connection charge and connection terms as well as ownership and responsibility boundaries. The applicable connection terms for the high-voltage distribution network apply to new connection agreements at any given time.
A prerequisite for a connection agreement is that the customer has the legally valid permits required for the construction of electrical installations, such as the land use plan (or placement permit), construction permit and project permit from the Energy Authority, and that an application for an expropriation permit for a possible (110 kV) connection cable has been submitted to the authority.
Connection charge for increasing the connection
We charge direct extension costs as well as a capacity reservation fee corresponding to the difference between the new and old connection capacity.
Electricity production connections
Electricity production in the low-voltage network
If the nominal production capacity of the connection is greater than the maximum possible consumption capacity (fuse size) of the connection, it is a production connection. If the price of a production connection exceeds that of a consumption connection, it is charged as the connection charge. Zone prices for production connections do not include a capacity reservation fee.
We charge for increasing the connection the difference between the connection charges for the old and the new main fuse sizes according to zone pricing. In changes to production, the connection charge is determined according to the changed production or consumption capacity, depending on which results in a higher price.
