Caruna will begin a major electricity meter renewal project in 2027, with meter replacements continuing until 2030. Although meter replacements have not yet begun, we would already like to tell you what the renewal means and how you can prepare.

Caruna has over 730,000 customers, and approximately 760,000 meters will be replaced. The replacement of electricity meters is free of charge for customers as part of this renewal.
In January 2025, Caruna selected Aidon as the supplier of electricity meters. Read more.
We will tender partners for the meter replacements during 2025. The partners will be confirmed at the beginning of 2026.

New electricity meters offer improved security and help customers participate in the transition to clean energy
The new electricity meter brings many benefits, such as:
- You can connect the electricity meter to your home automation system, enabling smart and cost-effective electricity use. You will also get real-time insight into your electricity consumption.
- The electricity network will be safer, faults can be resolved faster. The new meter communicates outage and safety information directly to Caruna, improving network safety and response times.
- The new meters are even more secure and utilize the latest technology.
How to prepare for the electricity meter replacement
Even though the meter replacement is not scheduled before 2027, it is a good idea to prepare in advance. Check the following:
- Current electricity meter: Make sure the meter is easily accessible and remove any unnecessary items around it.
- Main switchboard condition: If the electricity meter is located in an area accessible to you, ensure that the switchboard is in good condition and safe to use. A certified electrician must carry out the inspection.
- Contact information: Keep your contact details up to date to ensure you receive all communications regarding the meter replacement.
- Solar panels and batteries: If your property has solar panels or a battery system, make sure your electrician has reported them to Caruna using the general information form. This allows us to take them into account during the meter replacement Your electricity production will also appear in Caruna+ Electricity Monitoring, and any surplus production will reduce your electricity bill.

When will my electricity meter be replaced?
Meter replacements will begin in 2027 and continue until 2030. We will inform you of the specific schedule closer to the replacement.
Why replace the meter if the old one still works?
The new meters meet updated requirements set by the Finnish Government Decree, including home automation compatibility. Also, current meters will reach the end of their technical life by the end of the decade.
Even if your current meter is relatively new or working properly it will be replaced as Caruna is switching measurement service partners, and all meters will be standardized.
Will my meter be replaced if it already as a home automation connection?

Will the replacement cause a power outage?

What should I do before the meter replacement?
Check the condition of your meter space and the main switchboard, update your contact details, and ask your electrician to report any solar panels and batteries to Caruna if they have not been reported yet. This ensures a smooth replacement process.
Can I choose the supplier of the new electricity meter?
No, the supplier is chosen by Caruna.

How do I know that the installer is legitimate?
All installers carry a Caruna ID card. No installer will enter your property without prior notice.

Can I get a meter with a home automation connection earlier?
Yes. You can order one via our chatbot by selecting "Electricity metering". A fee will apply according to our service fee price list. Keep in mind, the meter will be replaced within a few years regardless, with one that includes a home automation connection.
I use electricity load control. What happens to it during the replacement?
Caruna's installation partner will disconnect and reconnect the load control wiring during the replacement.
