We will begin a major electricity meter renewal in 2027. We will replace the electricity meters for all our customers by 2030. The meter replacement will be free of charge for customers as part of the renewal. Through this renewal, we are taking the next step towards smart and sustainable energy use – together with our customers. Although meter replacements have not yet started, we want to explain already now what the renewal means and how you can prepare for it.
A new electricity meter makes everyday life easier and improves your energy monitoring
The new-generation electricity meters offer improved data security and support the transition to cleaner energy use. They speed up fault repair, provide more detailed insight into your electricity consumption and enable integration with home automation systems.
Your benefits with the new meter:
- Up-to-date electricity consumption monitoring: Your consumption data will be updated more frequently and shown in Caruna+ Energy Monitoring with 15‑minute accuracy. You can easily see when your usage is highest and how you can optimise it.
- Compatible with home automation: The new meter works with home automation systems (HAN/P1). You can use automation to make your electricity use smarter and more cost‑efficient.
- Faster fault repair and a safer electricity network: The meter communicates information on power cuts and potential safety risks directly to Caruna. This speeds up repair work and improves overall safety.
- Enhanced data security: The meters use the latest technology, offering stronger protection for both customer information and the electricity network.
How to prepare for the electricity meter replacement - check the following
- Current electricity meter: Make sure the meter is easily accessible and remove any unnecessary items around it.
- Contact information: Keep your contact details up to date to ensure you receive all communications regarding the meter replacement.
- Main switchboard condition: If the electricity meter is located in an area accessible to you, ensure that the switchboard is in good condition and safe to use. A certified electrician must carry out the inspection.
- Solar panels and batteries: If your property has solar panels or a battery system, make sure your electrician has reported them to Caruna using the general information form.

Frequently asked questions about the electricity meter replacement
When will my electricity meter be replaced?
Meter replacements will begin in 2027 and continue until the end of 2029. We will inform you of the specific schedule closer to the replacement.
Why do you replace the meter if the old one still works or is fairly new?
Even if your electricity meter is still fairly new or the old one works, it will be replaced because our metering service partner is changing and we are standardizing all meters.
The new meters meet the updated requirements of the Government Decree, including the home automation interface. The current meters will also reach the end of their technical lifecycle at the end of the decade.
Will my meter be replaced if it already as a home automation connection?
Yes. Caruna will replace all meters between 2027 and 2030. Yes. Caruna will replace all meters between 2027 and 2030. Even if your meter supports home automation, it will be replaced due to the change in our service provider and to standardize all meters.
Will the replacement cause a power outage?
Yes, the replacement will cause a brief power outage of about 10–20 minutes. You’ll be notified well in advance.
Will the meter replacement cost anything?
No, it is free of charge for our customers.
What should I do before the meter replacement?
Check the condition of your meter space and the main switchboard, update your contact details, and ask your electrician to report any solar panels and batteries to Caruna if they have not been reported yet. This ensures a smooth replacement process.
Can I choose the supplier of the new electricity meter?
No, the supplier is chosen by Caruna.
Do I need to be at home when the meter is replaced?
No, if the meter is located outdoors or in a technical space with unobstructed access. A meter located indoors may require someone to be present.

How do I know that the installer is legitimate?
All installers carry a Caruna ID card. No installer will enter your property without prior notice.

Can I get a meter with a home automation connection earlier?
Yes. You can order a new meter via this form. A fee will apply according to our service fee price list. Keep in mind, that the meter will be replaced within a few years regardless, with one that includes a home automation connection.
I use electricity load control. What happens to it during the replacement?
Caruna's installation partner will disconnect and reconnect the load control wiring during the replacement.
